Offshore wind turbines are built to stand for two decades in one of the most corrosive environments on earth. Salt spray, humidity, temperature swings and continuous vibration attack every exposed component — and the bolts holding a turbine together are among the most critical. When a tower flange or blade fastener fails, the cost is measured in downtime, safety and megawatts lost.
The Challenge
Tower flange bolts, blade root fasteners and internal structural bolts must maintain clamping force and resist corrosion for the turbine’s entire design life. Corrosion here is not cosmetic: it erodes preload, invites fatigue and threatens structural integrity in installations that are difficult and expensive to access.
Our Solution: Zinc-Aluminum Coating for Offshore Service
BOL Chemistry’s zinc-aluminum coating is engineered for these conditions — high salt-spray resistance, long-term corrosion protection and controlled friction for reliable preload retention. Applied to bolts sized for the flange and blade interfaces, the coating is built to perform across the tower’s service life.
Process and Assurance
Coatings are applied on our automated line with in-house quality control. Each batch is certified and traceable, giving turbine manufacturers and EPC contractors a coating they can specify with confidence.
Engineered to the Corrosion Class
We work with engineers to match coating thickness and system to the site’s corrosion class — whether the turbine sits near-shore or in open sea.
